Yup, I got lucky and made a new friend, Lucky, while exploring a dungeon.

CHAPTER 26

LUCKY

Lucky and I carefully made our way through this extremely labyrinthian segment of the Dungeon, and while we did, he told me about how he had gotten in here. He had first entered some three days ago. After that, he had gotten caught in many, many traps. He narrowly avoided them all with only a few cuts and bruises to show, but then he went and slipped into a pitfall trap. He was able to save himself before getting skewered, but he was stuck there for hours before he, and I quote, "dug his way out."

Lucky started breaking through walls and ended up here in this lower level, having skipped a good chunk of the traps we encountered.

Speaking of traps, the treasure chest trap—he knew how to deal with that one because he had fallen for it twice before. He was never tricked by the doppelgangers that appeared—

"The people they made appear were the last people who would ever show up here," he had said.

The first time he got ensnared, though, he suffered against the obvious doppelgangers for six hours.

Throughout his story, he never mentioned any strange voices... So, I finally asked after a while.

"Hey, have you heard any giggli—"

"BLAIR!"

It was a familiar cry—my eyes snapped ahead of me.

"S-Strel! Florence, Ansai!"

The three were together! And they were safe!

"Whoa! Blair! The doppels are back!" said Lucky as he rushed forward. "I'll distract them!"

"No! Lucky! They're real!"

Florence reacted quickly and got in front of Streletzia and Ansai. I didn't see everything, but I heard thuds and then saw Lucky's head jerk upward and the sole of Florence's boot between his legs after she ran her foot up his crotch.

"A—O—Oww," he pitifully cried before falling over.

Streletzia was shocked. "F-Florence!?"

And Florence shrugged. "I'm better at dealing with humans." Then she looked at me and wore a smile. "Blair! I was sooo scared!" She skipped toward me with her gear on and leaped into my chest. "Ooo, so nice and cool," she sang. I was a little too worried about Lucky to notice that Florence had really become more comfortable with me.

"B-Blair?" Streletzia asked as she walked up to us. "Are you okay? You were separated from us, and Ansai was telling us that she could sense you were upset.."

"Yeah, I'm okay," I said, doing my best to not let Florence topple me over while she rubbed her face against my chest. Ansai then lunged from Streletzia's shoulders to mine. "Ansai?"

"This one has re-evaluated. While we are in hostile territory, this one will stay with the Unprecedented One, despite your less hospitable shoulders."

"Aww," Streletzia said with a giggle. "She was really worried about you."

I felt a distinct sense of bashfulness from the snake, so I petted her and thanked her silently.

"Hmm?" All of a sudden, Florence made a sound and lifted her face from my chest, her spirit gear on. "Blair," she started, "are you actually okay? Why does it look like you've been.
